Love
Valentine's Day, hearts, roses, and weddings are a few things that may come to mind when you think of love. All of those are related to love, but there's more. Love is something that should be shown every day and to all people. I Corinthians 13:4-8 gives us the perfect description of what love should look like. Before we take a closer look at these verses, let's talk about the greatest love that was shown. The greatest love shown was when God sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and wrongdoing (John 3:16). It didn't end there though because Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives! Can you imagine giving up your only son for everyone in the world?! That's exactly what God did. Now that's love! I'm so grateful for His love! Now let's get back to I Corinthians 13:4-8 where love is described in actions and attitudes. Love is an action word. Love is being kind to ourselves and others. Love needs to be shown in what we say and how we say it. How we talk to ourselves and others is important. The tone of voice can make a difference in how someone receives us. It can make a difference in whether they listen to us or they don't listen to us. Love does not think they are better than others. Love is not jealous and does not want to see someone's downfall. In fact, love does the opposite. When we love, we want the best for ourselves and others. Love wants to see success and see progress. Love wants to move forward and not go backwards. Love cares about all people the same. Love is praying for others even when you know they aren't praying for you and don't want the best for you. Love is speaking to people and holding your head up high when you walk by them even though you know they finish talking behind your back. We should love God and others (Matthew 22:37-39). We love God by obeying His Word. We love God by appreciating Him, living for Him, honoring Him and thanking Him every chance we get. We show God we love Him by treating other people right. Love should not discriminate nor should it show favoritism. Love should be spread everywhere. Wherever we live and are currently at, we should be showing love in our corner of the world. If we all did our part in showing love, what a difference we would see in our world! If we were determined to love God like we should, love people like we should and love ourselves, what a time it would be!! While we show love to God and others, let's not forget to show love to ourselves and take care of ourselves. When we love ourselves, we won't put ourselves in situations that will cause harm. Ephesians 5:2 encourages us to live a life of love just like Jesus showed us love. So let's show love all day and every day. Love is the glue that will hold us together. When we don't feel like loving or question should we really show love, let's think about God's love for us. Love wins every time!
