Would You Rather?

It’s fun. It’s simple. It requires you to think and focus on the questions being asked. After careful consideration, you must choose wisely your response. It’s a game that’s easy to play anywhere and by all ages. At this point, you may be wondering about what game I am talking about. I am talking about none other than “Would You Rather?” Yes, the title of this blog post is the name of the game! My students absolutely love this game πŸ˜€! At the mention of this game, many of them smile and light up at the thought of playing. It makes them so happy. This makes me happy too! When my students play this game in my classroom, they physically move and choose a side of the room to stand on based on their answer. You see, the game consists of a series of questions being asked where players decide between 2 choices presented to them. For example, players may be asked questions such as, “Would you rather live at the beach or in the mountains?” or “Would you rather be an only child or have 10 siblings?” These are both questions that I have asked my students before. What I found out from their responses was that I have a lot of beach lovers who would be an only child πŸ˜€! Topics range from what foods you would eat to seasons you want it to be to hobbies and activities you would participate in to places you would visit. Any topic you can think of can easily be a “Would You Rather?” It’s a fun way to learn about others and yourself. You learn a lot about yourself you didn’t even know πŸ’—!  I love to play the game right along with my students! Some questions are answered quickly by my students, and they choose their side immediately to walk to. Then there are other questions that they must put more thought into and take longer to choose a side. Some students have been undecided about how to answer some questions. The game is really about looking at our choices and being intentional. The choices have us reflecting on what we like and what we don’t like. It gives a lot of insight about a person. When it comes to life, we must also make choices. Just like the would you rather questions are about a variety of topics, we have various choices to make daily. Our choices matter. Some choices may be quick and easy to make, while others take longer to make. In both cases, we have to give careful thought to what is being asked and then choose wisely. The Bible talks about in Ephesians 5:15-16 about how we should be careful to live wisely and make the most of every opportunity πŸ™. Let’s make choices that reflect genuinely who we are as a person. I love seeing my one student standing by themselves on one side of my classroom while their other peers have all chosen the opposite response. I always do my best to applaud the one for their bravery because I know it’s not easy to dare to be different πŸ‘. They do it and I love it! Let’s make choices that benefit and help us not just for the short-term, but for the long-term. We need to ask ourselves will this choice matter next week, next month, next year. Does this choice bring peace? Does this choice honor God? Finally, let’s choose to smile and laugh every day. We have so many good laughs in my classroom when we play this game πŸ˜€. Just thinking about it now puts a smile on my face. So, I want to leave you with a “Would You Rather?” question you can ask yourself every day: "Would you rather please people or please God?" I do realize that people pleasing is real as I’m sure we’ve all struggled with it at one time or another (or still do if we would be honest!). I hope your answer is to please God as He wants to help us do that. May that answer guide our actions, words and attitudes in the right direction every day. May the life we live show that our goal is to please God. May we make good choices every day, all day! God bless you all πŸ™πŸ’–!
