You're Not Too Old
Perhaps, somewhere along life's journey, you have felt like you were too old to accomplish something or start over. Maybe, someone told you that or the voice in your own head told you that. Either way, I've learned that this is not true at all π! In fact, some of my best days were in my 30's and now in my 40's ππ. We're not too old to learn something new. We're not too old to accomplish a goal. We're not too old to have new experiences and adventures. We're not too old to walk in our purpose. We're not too old to start over. We're not too old to be used by God. Today, I want us to take a closer look at the Bible in the book of Exodus where we see God using two brothers, regardless of their age. In the book of Exodus, we find God's people, the Israelites, in slavery in Egypt. God sees their suffering and wants to rescue them. God decides to use two brothers by the name of Moses and Aaron to be part of the mission to rescue them. Now, I have read this story many times in the Bible, but this morning in my devotional time reading this story, something really stuck out to me. In Exodus 7, God is talking to Moses and tells him that whatever He tells Him to say, he needs to tell his brother Aaron. Aaron would then speak it to the Pharoah the king and be the mouthpiece. You see, Moses did not speak well (Exodus 6:30), so God allowed his brother Aaron to go along to support and be the spokesperson. Then, in Exodus 7:7, it tells us exactly how old they are. Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83 years old. Yes, you read that correctly π!! That's what stuck out to me more than normal this morning!! The brothers were definitely not in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's, or even 50's. They were in their 80's! Now to society's standards, that may seem old, but to God, it was just right π!! God continued to be with Moses and Aaron as the people in Egypt endured tough times with the plagues (Exodus 7:14- 11). Even in that, God allowed the mission to be accomplished and eventually Pharoah let God's people go! Today, I want you to be encouraged by Moses and Aaron' mission in their eighties. I think it's amazing π!! You know what's even more amazing?! God is the same God now that He was in the book of Exodus! He's the same God that wants to use us regardless of age. You're not too old to start the business, pursue a new hobby, travel, have new experiences and adventures, take the class, reach a goal, or serve in your community or church. Don't let your age stop you from living your life to the fullest. Don't let your age stop you from making a difference in the world around you. Don't let your voice or anyone else's voice tell you that your dreams and goals are out of your reach. If you start getting a little weary or discouraged like Moses, God will send you an Aaron π. He'll send the support and encouragement you need. I'm grateful for the Aarons that God has placed in my life π!! You should be grateful for yours also! If you don't have an Aaron, pray and ask God to send you one because He will π. So, remember, you're not too old. We're not too old. We can know our best days are just up ahead!! God bless you allπ!!
Your post is very encouraging!! No we are not to old to do anything!! Love it!! π
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! I'm glad you love it!! Blessings to you!
DeleteIt’s 2:45 AM and I needed something to do so I read your blog. (I still think you wrote it for -lol!)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. You’re only as old as you allow yourself to be. I was 50 when I went back to school to get my masters degree. I was afraid to compete with the young kids in my cohort. But I did well-aced all my courses, was the first one to get a job teaching. Three years later, as soon as I was eligible, I took the course trot national certification. My cohort had 12 people in it and I was one of the 2 who passed.
After 12 years of teaching, I got cancer and had to retire because my immune system was so compromised. Talk about being left without a rudder! I had defined myself by my profession. If I could no longer teach, who was I!
A couple of years later, my minister asked me to head the Mission and Evangelism committee of my church. Since then my
committee has packaged thousands of meals for needy people, started a mission focus for different needy causes each month, monthly recognizes a different business in our community and surprises them with delicious treats, supports the Social Services Christmas Store with our Christmas in July program and many other wonderful projects. I also love volunteering with your Bible Club.
All this to say- if you’re open to God’s leading, you can accomplish miracles, regardless of your age.
Thank you for your latest blog!
