Pencil It In

I love to-do lists! I use them at work and home 😊. As I balance different responsibilities, writing it down helps me to remember and helps me to be intentional. I'm also a visual learner, so seeing it really helps. At the beginning of my day, I can take a look at my list and see what I want to accomplish that day. Sometimes, I get too ambitious and write way TOO many things and other times, I write down a smaller list with 3-5 things. I'm working on writing down less. I've also learned that it's okay if everything doesn't get done on the list. The big question I ask myself now every day is, "Does it need to get done today?" If the answer is yes, then I do it. If it can wait, then it waits. Having plans are good, but I've learned plans can change! I can think of many occasions where I planned something, but it didn't go the way I planned or didn't happen it all. You can probably think of those times too! In deciding what plans to make, I've learned to make sure to plan time for you (exercise, nap, watch a movie, read, etc.) and make time for others (send an encouraging message, help someone, say hi, etc.) This past week, our Bible Club went to visit the local nursing home residents. Now, you may recall I shared in a previous blog post about our October visit. Well, the nursing home residents loved us so much that they wanted us back in November 😊!! Now, we were not planning to go back until December to see them, but God had other plans and I loved it! This month's visit was amazing and the students did great 💚💙!! The visit was so heartwarming and felt like a big hug. There was one student that went to the nursing home for the first time. After our visit, he said " I really liked that!" and I'm so glad he did 😊. Now, we are going back in December to share and sing Christmas songs, so that's currently being planned. Earlier, I mentioned that I write down to-do lists at work. In my lesson plan notebook, I write down my lesson outline/agenda in pencil. Yes, notice I said pencil. I used to write in ink pen, but that changed when I saw how easily plans changed on how far we got on a lesson or what practice students still needed. Pencils have an eraser, so I can erase things as needed. Pencils help me to be flexible and adjust as needed. As you think about your day and the days ahead, don't forget to be intentional. Pencil in fun. Pencil in rest. Pencil in time for goals and others. Pencil in time to be still and do nothing (that's okay too!). Pencil in new memories. Proverbs 19:21 says, "Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Know it's okay to make plans, but also know they are subject to change. God bless you and love you all 💙!!
