A Safe Place

Where do you feel safe at? When do you feel safe? Who do you feel safe with? These are all questions we should ask ourselves on a daily basis 😊. Feeling safe is important to our well- being. Feeling physically and mentally safe means we feel protected and can be our genuine selves. A safe place is an environment where we feel free of judgement and feel at peace. A safe place will help us grow and thrive πŸ’œ. We can have authentic communication in that safe place. We don't have to hide our interests, mistakes, or dreams in that safe space. We can use our gifts and talents in that safe space. All of us should have at least one safe place in our lives. Safe places can be physical. My house is a safe space for me 😊. My comfy chair in my room is one of my favorite places to be as I read, write, talk on the phone, listen to music, pray or just sit in silence in it πŸ’—. Another safe space for me is the library! It's one of my favorite places in the whole world 😊. On Valentine's Day, I visited my local library as I hadn't been in a while. It felt amazing! It put an extra pep in my step that day 😊. I used to spend a lot more time in the library. In fact, when I was working on my Master's degree, I spent most of my time using the library's computer and Internet to complete and turn in assignments. I am forever grateful for that!! I love the warmth and peace I feel at the library πŸ’—. It's a sense of community and love felt. The library is a place everyone should visit from time to time. Safe places are not just physical, but they can also be a relationship or a community group you're a part of. The people in our circle should be a safe space. We should be able to be ourselves around them and share without judgement. We should feel confident around them. I read a social media post not long ago that said our people should be good for our nervous system. That is so powerful and so true!! If there is any sign of uneasiness around those individuals, we should definitely pray and ask God as He will give us wisdom and show us what to do and how to handle the situation (Job 12:13). An example of a group of people that is my safe place is the local community choir I am part of 😊. We are a group of people who are like-minded, love God and want to sing His praises. It is uplifting and like being part of a family for sure! You all know how important family is to me, so it aligns right with what is important to me πŸ’—. Today, this is a reminder to check your places. Are they safe? Can you be yourself in those spaces? Does your nervous system feel calm around them? In addition to physical spaces and relationships, let's check our mental space. Let's check our minds daily. Let's ask God to give us peace in our mind and show us clarity on where those safe spaces are in our lives. God is always on our side and will not lead us wrong (Proverbs 3:26). Let's reach out to talk to others that can help us. We can know we are not alone! We all need support and kindness shown πŸ’—. Also, don't forget to be a safe space for someone else because you never know who needs it. So, regardless of what each day holds, we can say each night this Scripture- Psalm 4:8: "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord make me dwell in safety." We can have "sweet sleep" and know our safe places are secure. God bless you all!
