Covered!

He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Psalm 91:4 NLT

First of all, I have to begin by saying that I love the New Living Translation version of this verse! In this verse, it refers to God and his Word covering us. God is so big and so wide that He covers the whole world and each of us in it. It is so amazing to know that God has us covered! When we are covered, we are protected and taken care of. Nothing is left uncovered when God is covering it. Not only does He cover us as people, but He also covers our situations and concerns. So, let's stop for a minute and think about an umbrella. When we know it's raining outside or the weather forecast calls for rain, we take an umbrella along. Then, when it starts to rain, we can hold up our umbrella and know that we are covered. The umbrella keeps the rain from getting on us. It gives us a sense of safety. While we may see and even hear the rain as it comes down around us, it doesn't have to affect us. We can know it will be alright and have a sense of safety. It's the same thing in our lives. We live in a world where it doesn't seem like we're safe anywhere any more- school, job, college, restaurant, grocery store, church and even our own homes. However, in God, we can have a sense of safety. We can have hope in Him and know that we are safe in Him. God can cover all different places at the same time and how wonderful that is! Not only does God Himself cover us, but so does God's Word. In this particular verse, it refers to God's promises being faithful and our armor and protection. When soldiers get ready to go to battle, they have to put on the whole armor. Just like soldiers put on their armor, we need to put on the whole armor as Christians (see Ephesians 6:10-17). We have to allow the Word of God to be in us and give us peace when the "rain" hits our lives. That's why it is so important that we spend time reading and studying the Word and doing our best to apply in our lives. It's the Word that will carry us through and allow us to walk from one place to the next knowing we're safe. Just like we have to hold the umbrella up when it's raining, we have to live the Word and hold up the Word in our lives. We are responsible for doing that. I've never seen an umbrella hold itself up! A person had to be holding it up. So, during those storms, we have to hold up God's promises, such as Him being our help, strength, never leaving us and knowing He has plans to prosper us and to give us a hope and a future. Now, all of our storms in life are different. For some, it may be divorce, social media situations, bullying or heartache. For others, it may be a health issue, loss of loved one, financial issues, or church or family issues. While our storms may be different, I know one fact remains: God is with us and stays the same through it all! Therefore, during our storms, we can confidently live and hold up the Word of God and His promises. We can boldly say "I'm covered!." We can declare that over ourselves, our world at large and all those connected to us. So, when it looks like chaos is all around and the "rain" is coming from every direction, we can know God's got us. We can say, "We're covered!"
