Jen's Summer At- A- Glance

Summer 2022. It had challenging moments, wonderful moments, unexpected moments and moments of growth. As I reflect back on my summer, I can truly say God has been good and it was one of the my best summers yet πŸ’•! So let me take you on my summer journey..

June

  • On the first day of summer break, I celebrated my birthday with friends and family at lunch at Texas Roadhouse. It was my first time eating at the restaurant and it definitely won't be my last time! It was a wonderful celebration with delicious food and pictures galore😊. The whole restaurant gave me birthday greetings Texas style, which was neat!! A beautiful day with my beautiful people πŸ’•!!
  • The following weekend, our family celebrated my Aunt's birthday (my Mom's youngest sister) with dinner at the Virginia Grill restaurant. The scenery was near a golf course and the hills were beautiful! I love my family so much!! Our family has endured seeing many of our loved ones pass away recently and it was so good to get together on a happy occasion. We continue to hold on to our faith, memories and each other πŸ™πŸ’–.Another beautiful day with my beautiful people πŸ’–!!
  • I went to my regular doctor's appointment and got routine blood work done on Tuesday, June 21st. After the appointment, I went about my day. I visited a new local bookstore and my great Aunt and went grocery shopping.
  • The very next day on Wednesday, June 22nd, I got a life-changing call that I was not expecting at all. It was a call from my doctor's office where a low red blood cell count was seen in my blood work the day before. It was low enough that I was told to get a blood transfusion as soon as possible. I was not expecting that news on the other end, so I had to muster up some faith and believe I was going to get through it. So that Wednesday morning, I went to the emergency room and got 1 unit of blood pumped into me. The process was 2 hours long. I'm so thankful for God, my brother and all who were praying for me and checking in with me πŸ™. I made it through fine and was able to go home the same day 😊. The conclusion: I have anemia and my iron was low. Currently, I have to get blood work done monthly to check my levels, take an iron supplement daily and eat more iron rich foods.
July
  •  Earlier in the month, I was able to eat lunch out and spend time with one of my best friends who also teaches and was on her summer break. We had a wonderful time catching up and sharing laughsπŸ˜ŠπŸ’—.
  • In the middle of the month, I went to Yorktown Beach and enjoyed time with one of my sister cousins and best friend. That was so fun and relaxing! It was so beautiful and calming near the water and seeing God's creation was amazing😊.
  • The following weekend after the beach day, I celebrated my friend and hairstylist at her baby shower and we had a fabulous time πŸ’š! I was able to meet some of the individuals in the singles group I'm a part of in person for the first time and that was exciting!! They are friends who have become like family and that's the best feeling 😊. Another beautiful day with my beautiful people!
  • At the end of the month, I attended a Sunflower festival (my first time ever) and lunch at Olive Garden with my cousins. It was so much fun going through the maze, taking in the scenery and having delicious lunch with my people πŸ’–. Another beautiful day indeed!
August
  • My brother and I went shopping at Patrick Henry Mall together for the first time in forever πŸ’™! We used to go all the time on the weekends with our Mom and Dad when we were younger. We talked about those good memories and had a good time that day 😊.
  • By the second week of August, I tested positive for covid and wasn't feeling good with mild symptoms (cough, congestion). I was trying to avoid the sickness and be careful, but it happened. Each day, I did get better and tested negative about a week later- praise God! The hardest thing for me was quarantining in my house. I stayed in my Mom's room since it's closer access to the bathroom. It was hard having to wear my mask at home when in contact with my brother and not being able to sit at the dinner table to eat dinner with my brother. Since it's only me and my brother at home now, I especially don't take our meal time for granted now and we still eat together every night πŸ’™. I missed cooking dinner for us (especially since I was just starting to use our air fryer more 😊) and washing the dishes. It's the little things that I missed! Today, I stand before you healed- thank you God πŸ™πŸ’–!!
I kept up my hair and nail appointments all summer. I got new natural hairstyles that I absolutely love and will be rocking them not just in the summer season now πŸ˜‰πŸ’–. So, as you can see, unexpected turns, trying times and amazing adventures were all part of my summer. Yet, through all I went through, I still declare that this summer was the best yet! I'm so thankful I'm here to tell you my story. I'm not just surviving, but I'm thriving πŸ’—!! May you continue to thrive as well! I love you all and let's look ahead to our best days yet πŸ’—!!
