What Are You Running To?

This time of year, many people are rushing to the stores to shop for the latest sales. People are rushing to get the decorations and Christmas tree put up. People are rushing to see family and friends far and near. People are rushing to make sure everything is perfect for the gatherings that will take place this season. This season can be a lot! It can be a beautiful season, but it can also leave one exhausted and with different feelings. It is a time set aside where we especially remember Jesus' birth for us and how He came to be our Savior (Luke 2:10-12). I'm so grateful πŸ’–!! Since December is also the last month of the year, we also tend to use this month as a time of reflection over the past year. We look at all the things that happened- good and bad- and take the lessons and wins. We look at the goals accomplished and those not yet accomplished. We look at the new adventures and new experiences that happened with family and friends - I'm so grateful for mineπŸ’–. It can be also be a time where we look back at past memories of family and friends who are no longer with us as I talked about in last week's post. If you haven't checked out "Cherish the Memories," I encourage you to go do so 😊! This season can definitely bring about mixed emotions, but I want you to cautious and careful of what you are running to. We need to watch who we're running to. Everything and everybody is not for us to run to. Proverbs 14:16 says, "A wise person is cautious and turns from evil, but a fool is easily angered and is careless." Whew! There's a lot right in that verse right there. All of us have one point not being cautious and rushed into something we shouldn't have. I know I'm guilty of doing this! Whether it was the words we said or posted, the places we went, or wrong relationships, we rushed into something without thinking it through clearly. I have been learning in this season that if I don't have peace about it, don't run to it. If there's any uneasiness, pray to God about it, talk it over with wise counsel, and move cautiously πŸ™. Ecclesiastes 5:2 tells us, "Do not be hasty to speak." We definitely can't say everything we're thinking or the first thing we think of. I like to call it the "pause for the cause." I am learning in this season to run to rest (Matthew 11:28). My body definitely lets me know when I'm overdoing it. I'm learning that I can't be everywhere and at every event that happens. Some things need my "no" because I need to rest and reset. "No" is not a bad thing as there are times we have to say no, so we're not running to burnout and exhaustion. I'm learning to run to peace and positivity in this season πŸ’–. I'm not running to the negativity and gossip and neither should you. Sometimes, those things get brought to us, but we have to know not to entertain it. I only want to run to what's healthy and benefiting me. I need to run to help others as I'm able. While helping others, we have to remember to help ourselves and do the best we can to take care of us 😊. When life happens, we have to remember to run to the right places, right sources, and right people. We do have to be cautious about running to social media for everything. Social media can be a good thing as I have received encouragement and support, for which I'm grateful for πŸ’–. However, there are also posts and pages we should not run to on social media. Social media can be draining at times! I remember the week of my Thanksgiving break that I spent way TOO much time on my phone. A lot was sending and receiving Thanksgiving messages, but I also noticed I was getting on social media more than I should have. So, now I'm way more mindful of my phone use. Let's run to more things that keep us from our phone like reading, exercising, watching movies/TV, listening to music, getting fresh air, and spending time with family and friends on new adventures😊. Let's run to people that can help us and we can help. Let's run to God and His Word. Let's run to things that uplift us and keep us focused on what's right. Let's hold on to Hebrews 12:1-2 as we continue to run this race called life. It's only up from here! May God bless you all πŸ’–!!
