Embrace

To hold on to something.
To keep it close.
To not let go.

When we embrace someone or something, we hold them close to us. What or who we embrace is usually very important to us. They have significance and mean a lot. We can hold on to a lot of things, but are we holding on to the right things? Is what we're embracing helping us or hurting us? Encouraging us or discouraging us? Every day, we have to ask ourselves if what we're holding on to is really worth it. At the end of the day, some things are really just not worth holding on to. It's not worth holding on to jealousy, complaining, bitterness, grudges, worry, the past, wrong patterns of thinking. These need to be released daily. The longer we hold on to them, the longer we are hurting ourselves. When these are released and let go, they need to be replaced with something positive and good. Releasing the wrong makes room to embrace what's right. In the Bible, Ecclesiastes 3 talks about there being a time and season for everything. In verse 5 of that chapter, it says that there is "a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing." Knowing what and when to embrace is the key. In order to know what and when to embrace, we first must embrace the Word of God. The Word tells us the right instructions. In Proverbs 4:4, Solomon tells his son, "Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live." The word retain means to hold on to. We need to hold on to the Word of God. We need to study the Word, so we can know what it says, think about it often and live it daily. Proverbs 3:18 describes wisdom as a "tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retaineth her." Wisdom should be embraced so we know what to do and what not to do in all situations. Especially in the time we're living in now, wisdom needs to be embraced more than ever by those in leadership and individuals in general. Here's what we should be embracing.. We should embrace joy, peace, love, forgiveness, healing, hope, thankfulness, kindness, newness, brighter days ahead. We should embrace doing what's right, wanting the best for ourselves and others and perseverance. We have to endure and press on. We've come too far to give up! We need to embrace the present moments and what the future holds. We need to appreciate and embrace the moments we can connect with those we love. No one should be taken for granted. We have to embrace the good that's in front of us. While all may not look good at the present moment, we have to choose to find the good places and see the lesson in everything going on. God is allowing it for a reason. So let's embrace each day as it comes. Let's embrace what's good and right. Let's embrace what's worth holding on to.
